Our Programming
AquaMissions' purpose is to save and change lives by building trust and enhancing skills through introductory water experiences, safety instruction, and swim lessons for Greater Cleveland's youth.
In 2021, Dr. Lynne Nagy founded AquaMissions following mounting frustration in the community over drowning accidents and deaths along the shores of Lake Erie.
AquaMissions’ flagship offering is a school-based Learn-to-Swim program that removes economic and social barriers to basic water safety education and learning to swim.
As state legislatures nationwide begin to require swimming instruction in elementary school curricula, AquaMissions and Cleveland Metropolitan Schools are leading this initiative in Northeast Ohio.
In partnership with Cleveland State University, Cuyahoga County’s Fresh Water Institute, and private donor support, we are working to build trust by empowering children through first-hand water experiences, helping each child gain confidence and essential life skills.
Our programming is designed with the following core tenets in mind:
-
Honor the principle of “Challenge by Choice.” Promote self-discovery, resilience, and group problem-solving.
-
We prioritize water safety and life-saving skills in everything we do and teach.
-
We build confidence and skills that last a lifetime.
-
We create opportunities to learn from both successes and challenges.
